Caldwell supplies MILL DUTY LIFTERS Sheet/Plate Handling Machines. We offer vacuum lifting beams for handling large sheets or plates of metal, magnet lifting beams for the handling of products varying in length, telescopic sheet lifters for the handling of sheets and plates with minimum manpower, and parallelogram sheet lifters that are ideal when space between sheet stacks is limited.
Coil Grabbers
Caldwell supplies MILL DUTY LIFTERS Coil Grabbers. We offer single rim coil tong/grabbers for use in the primary metals industry, double rim coil tong/grabbers that are designed to handle light gauge or highly finished coils when in the eye vertical position, and C-hooks for handling coils in the eye horizontal position. These C-hooks are available in a wide range of capacities, coil sizes, and design styles. Caldwell also offers telescoping coil grabbers that allow for the handling of a wide range of coil sizes with minimum manpower and parallelogram coil lifters that are used when aisle space between coils is limited.
Ingot/Slab Handling
Caldwell supplies MILL DUTY LIFTERS Ingot/Slab Handling Machines. Our company offers ingot/slab tongs for use in the primary metals industry, motorized ingot/slab swivel grabbers for the handling of a wide range of ingots, and ingot/slab handling grabbers for handling ingots in the horizontal position.

Custom lifting beams are available with a wide range of capacities and are tailored to accommodate your application and requirements. We also supply motorized rotating crane hooks that make rotating loads simple for operators.

We utilized design features in these lifters that incorporate mechanical components to ensure a longer lifespan with minimum maintenance. These features include interlocked parent metal structural connections to reduce any weld stress that may be caused by high-stress factors and duty cycles, ensuring years of safe, reliable operation. The product images and applications are shown are a small representation of Caldwell®’s Mill Duty lifting product designs.

Caldwell Mill Duty Design and Manufacturing Standards:
- These lifters are custom-designed for heavy and severe duty service per ASME B30.20, BTH-1 Design Category “B”, Service Class “3” or “4.”
- Design Category “B” – loads and conditions are not accurately defined (ASME BTH-1)
- Service Class “3” – 500,001 to 2,000,000 load cycles
- Service Class “4” – over 2,000,000 load cycles
- Interlocked parent metal structural connections
- Designs include replaceable wear plates/hardened steel bushings in high friction areas
- Suspensions are designed for long term life
- Slip clutches located on the gearbox output shaft to drive train protection
- Lifters are registered with metal identification tags attached
- Rated capacities and safety warnings are clearly visible
Caldwell Upholds to Industry Standards
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) has developed standards that apply specifically to the devices Caldwell® designs. ASME B30.20 provides detailed information on the classifications, marking, construction, installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and operation of below the hook lifting devices. ASME BTH-1 provides detailed information on the design criteria of below the hook lifting devices. ASME B30.9 provides detailed information on the fabrication, markings, usage, inspection, and maintenance of lifting slings. These standards serve as a guide to government authorities, manufacturers, purchasers and users of lifting devices.
