The Caldwell Group has been manufacturing lifting equipment since 1954. It is our goal to manufacture high quality, long-lasting lifting products that will safely increase productivity and reduce operating costs. Below the Hook Lifters are devices (excluding slings) that attach hoists to their loads. These lifters can be separated into three categories:
- Supporting - Carries the load on a bearing surface(s)
- Indentation - Grip force indents the sides of the load
- Friction - Applies a sufficient coefficient of friction to support the load
Caldwell has been supplying the STRONG-BAC® product line for over 50 years. One of the best features STRONG-BAC® offers is their extensive line of lifting beams. They offer various adjustable spreader/lifting beams & adjustable bail lifting beams for handling both wide and unbalanced loads. Caldwell also supplies twin hoist rotating lifting beams & twin hoist lifting beams which are specially designed lifting and rotating beams using two cranes or two hoists to horizontally rotate a load.
For heavy construction work, bridge work, or extreme manufacturing, STRONG-BAC® provides high-capacity lifting beams & 20TB & 20TS triangle beams. Caldwell Triangle Beams provide a low headroom solution when a shortspan is all you need to make the connections between the load and the crane. Caldwell triangle beams are available in standard capacities from 13 to 149 tons and comply with ASME standards. Finally, for small, limited working spaces, STRONG-BAC® has load leveler lifting beams & low headroom multiple spread lifting beams.
Fixed spreader beams and adjustable spreader beams are ideal where headroom is not limited. High capacity spreader beams are the solution you need to fill orders where quick delivery is required on beams with capacities ranging from 5 to 130 tons. Meanwhile, DURA-MOD modular lifting systems are typically used by various spreader beam sections or corner fittings to make your lifter configurations virtually limitless. Caldwell also offers spreader beam end fittings that are designed to work with a range of shackle sizes, as well as beam end fittings for pipe couplers that add flexibility to your spreader beam end fitting system.
Roll lifting beams are used to lift rolls with plate style or bent bar J-hooks. These hooks are designed to support the core mandrel through the I.D. of the roll. Fixed beam lengths can be used for single roll widths. Maximum roll diameters will determine the length of the J-hooks. Caldwell also provides roll gripping tongs, roll grabs, roll lifting C-hooks, motorized roll lifters, roll positioners, and more.
Coil Lifters & Upenders
Dixon coil hooks with pivoting wedges are popular for use with small, lightweight coils. Caldwell offers the STRONG-BAC® line of coil lifters and upenders. Products include heavy duty C-Hooks, which are designed for heavy-duty applications, slit coil C-Hooks, which handle multiple slit coils which maximize handling efficiency, close stacking C-Hooks, which can handle a wide range of coil widths, and ergonomic vertical “Eye” coil lifters, which efficiently handles vertically stacked coils.
Caldwell offers the STRONG-BAC® line of sheet lifters for construction, manufacturing, and industrial industries. Products include small bundle sheet lifters, for a light-duty unit for handling smaller size sheets and bundles, motorized heavy-duty sheet lifters & hydraulic sheet lifters, which both allow versatile handling of bundles, sheets, plates, and other materials stacked horizontally. Finally, STRONG-BAC® Plate Lifters provides a quick and easy solution for handling thick plates, one at a time.
Keep your employees safe with our patent-pending Lifter LockOut™. This innovative device senses when a load is in the lifter and locks out functions to prevent inadvertent opening of the lifter. This can be installed on most motorized lifters that do not have a means of locking out the drive, including Caldwell Model 84 Coil Grab, Model 85P Paper Roll Grab, and Model 60 Sheet Lifters. It can even be installed on other manufacturers’ lifting equipment.
Pallet Lifters & Rotating Crane Hooks
Our company offers standard, heavy-duty, hand-wheel adjusted, and heavy-duty adjustable forks pallet lifters. Motorized rotating crane hooks allow for the independent and precise positioning of the load in question. Caldwell offers both clevis style and pin bail style.
When you need to raise your product to the correct height to aid in the manufacturing, maintenance, or repair process, our Strong-Bac® Heavy Duty Material Stands are the solution you need. Each pair is custom-designed to fit your specific application. Caldwell also provides custom-designed material baskets and bins, offering the ideal solution for lifting and transporting components at the job site or manufacturing facility.
Caldwell lifting tongs are available in standard configurations that fit many common applications. Not all lifting challenges can be solved with a standard tong; that’s why Caldwell has an experienced team that can create custom-designed lifting tongs to fit the specifications our customers provide. All custom Caldwell lifting tongs are designed to comply with ASME standards.

Caldwell Upholds to Industry Standards
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) has developed standards that apply specifically to the devices Caldwell® designs. ASME B30.20 provides detailed information on the classifications, marking, construction, installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and operation of below the hook lifting devices. ASME BTH-1 provides detailed information on the design criteria of below the hook lifting devices. ASME B30.9 provides detailed information on the fabrication, markings, usage, inspection, and maintenance of lifting slings. These standards serve as a guide to government authorities, manufacturers, purchasers and users of lifting devices.
We offer solutions that will increase the productivity and effectiveness of your lifter while ensuring the safety, reliability, and compliance of your equipment. Our services include training, maintenance, and inspection. Caldwell’s Standard Quality Assurance program follows specific design criteria as required by ASME.
